With a passion for physics and technology, he entered the PCSI preparatory school at Lycée Fabert in Metz in 2018 after obtaining his Bac S. He continued in the PC (Physique Chimie) stream and succeeded in joining CentraleSupélec in 2020. During his time at the school, he had the opportunity to discover different sectors of engineering, with a particular interest in energy and quantum engineering. In parallel with his 1st year, in 2021 he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Fundamental Physics at Orsay University. In 2022-2023, he takes a year off from his studies, during which he does his first research internship at EDF R&D (EDF Lab Les Renardières), where he develops thermal models and a monitoring system for high-voltage links. Pierre-Louis then embarked on a second internship in Germany (ZSW Baden-Württemberg), where he took part in the development and characterization of hydrogen fuel cell (PEMFC) components. These two decisive experiences confirmed his desire to pursue a career in energy and research. He is currently in his final year at CentraleSupélec, majoring in Energy Resources. He plans to pursue a thesis in the energy industry.
Space agencies are planning to establish permanent bases on the Moon by the end of the 2020s. On the Moon, it’s -150°C at night and +150°C during the day. To support a scientific base of 8 people, how much energy will be needed? What types of energy will be available? How will energy constraints impact exploration strategy? How do these lunar activities foreshadow and help prepare for manned exploration of Mars?
