Armand Pomart

Armand Pomart trained as a geological engineer. He graduated from UniLaSalle in 2021 after 3 years of work-study training with the Association Française des Professionnels de la Géothermie (AFPG), during which he worked on tools to promote geothermal energy, in conjunction with BRGM, on the geothermal energy observatory, for example. He then took up a position as regional geothermal coordinator for the Ile-de-France region, a mission funded by ADEME and supported by AFPG. In this role, he worked alongside public and private project developers, helping them to implement a wide variety of geothermal projects, and raising awareness among regional players of the technical, economic, regulatory and environmental aspects of this energy source. On behalf of the French association, he monitors, leads and coordinates the industry’s players around structuring topics in deep geothermal energy. Since 2022, he has been co-piloting Alliance lithium, a cluster of French companies invested in geothermal lithium production.

Conference: Is it time to develop geothermal energy?

Geothermal energy, both surface and deep, is one of the renewable energies essential to the current energy transition. Wrongly regarded as new energies, they are now mature, applicable to most of our energy needs in the tertiary sector, residential buildings and industry, and could replace massive imports of natural gas, thereby improving France’s energy independence. As the only renewable energy capable of producing heat and cold, separately or simultaneously, with unrivalled performance, geothermal energy not only limits climate disruption, but also helps combat its effects (heat waves in particular). Many preconceived ideas are holding back the development of geothermal energy: fears about its implementation, doubts about whether geothermal potential actually exists. To speed up its development, the French Ministry of Energy Transition published “an action plan to accelerate” on February 2, 2023. A true political message, the industry, united within the Association Française des Professionnels de la Géothermie (AFPG), is redoubling its efforts to facilitate the implementation of this local, low-carbon energy in the territories.
