Clara Obry

Born in the south of France, in the Haute-Garonne region, Clara Obry has been immersed in the world of mechanics since childhood. She has always been fascinated by the skies and the machines that fly them. After graduating with a scientific baccalaureate and a few flying lessons under her belt, she enrolled in a science preparatory class to prepare for the engineering school entrance exams. In 2020, she entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Poitiers (ENSI Poitiers), from which she has just graduated. Clara studied energetics and the environment, while continuing her flying club activities. This year, in her final year of studies, she embarked on a dual career, also studying at ISAE-ENSMA (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et d’Aérotechnique), where she specialized in combustion as part of a Master’s degree in “Air and Ground Transport”.

Debate: What kind of energy is needed to establish a permanent base on the Moon?

Space agencies are planning to establish permanent bases on the Moon by the end of the 2020s. On the Moon it’s -150 °C at night and + 150 °C during the day. How much energy will be needed to support a scientific base of 8 people? What types of energy can be used? How will energy constraints impact exploration strategy? How do these lunar activities foreshadow and help prepare for manned exploration of Mars?
