Professor Pere Roca Cabarrocas obtained his doctorate from the University of Paris VII in 1988. After a post-doc at Princeton University, he joined the Laboratoire de Physique des Interfaces et des Couches Minces (LPICM) at École Polytechnique, where he is a CNRS research director. From 2012 to 2020, he was Director of LPICM and of the French Photovoltaic Federation. Since 2019, he has been Scientific Director of the IPVF. He has thirty years’ experience in the plasma deposition of silicon-based thin films, and has used in situ diagnostic techniques to understand the growth of these materials and apply them to the production of devices such as solar cells and thin-film transistors. More recently, he has used plasma-synthesized silicon nanocrystals as building blocks for the epitaxial growth of silicon thin films. He has also extended plasma processes to the growth of vertical and in-plane silicon nanowires. He was awarded the Médaille Blondel in 2004, the Prix de l’Innovation de l’Ecole Polytechnique in 2009 and the Médaille d’Argent du CNRS in 2011. He has published over 520 papers, holds 38 patents and has supervised 56 PhD students.
