Aurélien Bigo is a researcher on the energy transition in transport. In 2020, he defended his dissertation “Les transports face au défi de la transition énergétique. Explorations between past and future, technology and sobriety, acceleration and slowdown”. He worked on ADEME’s Transition(s) 2050 scenarios, and is now an independent researcher associated with the Energy and Prosperity Chair. He now divides his time between research, consulting and popularization. He is the author of the book “CARS – Fake or not? “published in May 2023 by Tana Editions.
Transport is a major climate issue, with the need to move away from oil by 2050 to meet France’s climate targets. This challenge is all the more important given that transport accounts for just over 30% of emissions in France, and that oil consumption has struggled to fall in recent years. It will also be necessary to meet the other challenges of the transport transition, in terms of air pollution, resource consumption, space occupation, noise and physical inactivity. This will require a combination of many transitional levers, ranging from technological developments to more economical travel: moderating distances, switching to electric vehicles, developing cycling, car-sharing, public transport, intermediate vehicles between bikes and cars, and car-sharing will all be necessary to move towards more sustainable mobility.
