Nathalie Besson

Nathalie Besson is a researcher in the particle physics department of the Institut de recherche sur les lois fondamentales de l’Univers at CEA Saclay. She has worked for almost 20 years as part of the collaboration exploiting the data recorded by the ATLAS detector installed around one of the collision points of the Large Hadron Collider, the LHC, at CERN in Geneva. Her main area of interest is the Standard Model of particle physics, and more specifically the study of the W and Z bosons. She recently joined the LISA mission, which will be the first space-based detector of gravitational waves. She is also involved in disseminating knowledge of particle physics through conferences, scientific events, schools and teaching.

What energy to probe matter?

Particle physics has been developing for just over a century, thanks in particular to the discoveries made possible by ever-higher-energy particle gas pedals. We’ll be looking at the question from a number of angles, including “why”, “how” and “what’s next”.
