Nicolas Herrouët, born in 1984 in Colombia, began studying music in Saint Sébastien sur Loire and then at the Conservatoire National de Région de Nantes, where he obtained his Diploma in Musical Studies in 2003. He then entered the advanced program at the C.N.R. in Angers (1st Prize in Advanced Studies, 2004) and then at the C.N.R. in Versailles in Vincent David’s class in 2005. He has also won several international first prizes, notably at the European Competition for Young Saxophonists in Gap (2001) and at the UFAM competition as a soloist and in a duo (in 2004 and 2005). His musical activities are eclectic: he studied piano, analysis, and composition at the Nantes National Conservatory (class of J.B. Robin). He is also embarking on a career as an arranger, with around a hundred pieces already to his credit, mainly created by the Ellipsos Quartet and the Ellipsos Academy, drawn from the classical repertoire (Bach, Mendelssohn, Prokofiev, etc.), including a commission from the Habanera Quartet, as well as world music (Kenya, Argentina, Romania, etc.) and jazz. He is currently principal saxophone teacher (PEA) at the Nantes Conservatory and has already collaborated with the Pays de la Loire National Orchestra, the Utopik Ensemble, the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the cabaret revue “La Cloche.” With more than 500 concerts to his credit, he is the baritone saxophonist, arranger, and co-founder of the Ellipsos Quartet. Collection Director at Gérard Billaudot, he has also been a consultant for the D’Addario company (Los Angeles) since 2006.
