Martin Damphousse

Martin Damphousse, Mayor of the City of Varennes since 2009, is a man of commitment and vision. He puts the environment, family and responsible management at the heart of his priorities as mayor. In May 2023, he was elected President of the Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ), a prestigious position that positions him as the representative of Quebec’s elected municipal officials. In addition to his responsibilities at the provincial level, Martin Damphousse is also involved locally, sitting on various municipal bodies and organizations. In particular, he chairs the Board of Directors of the Société d’économie mixte de l’est de la couronne sud (SEMECS). Martin Damphousse is recognized as a dedicated leader, actively working for the well-being of his community and of Quebec as a whole. He also launched the Energy Plan, based on four key levers: differentiated consumption, promotion of social acceptability, acceleration of energy production and development of strategic partnerships.

Are municipalities key partners in the energy transition?

Quebec municipalities are key players in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. They play a crucial role in decarbonization, renewable energy production and energy efficiency, contributing to revenue diversification and local economic development. By raising awareness of the need for more efficient electricity consumption, promoting the social acceptability of energy projects and accelerating energy production, municipalities are becoming key partners in Quebec’s energy transition. By collaborating with governments and energy players, municipalities can enhance the energy resilience of communities and actively contribute to meeting today’s climate and energy challenges.
