Frank Lehot is a medical doctor, qualified in aerospace medicine and emergency medicine. He works in private practice and in hospitals. He also alternates between the roles of flight surgeon, instructor and safety navigator during the weightlessness flights of Novespace’s Airbus A310 Zéro G, dedicated above all to scientific research and now open to the public. His activities have led him to take an interest in human physiology in microgravity. He is a lecturer and author of several books on the history of the conquest of space, parabolic flight, suborbital tourism and space medicine.
Although weightlessness is fascinating and exhilarating for those who experience it, it also leads to accelerated aging of the organism. In just a few weeks or months, astronauts experience muscle degradation, bone decalcification, cardiovascular, immune and neurosensory changes… These disorders are similar to those that set in with age on Earth, but on a scale of years or decades. They force astronauts to fight a daily battle to preserve their bodies and remain operational.
